Room at various angles.

...Because Edgeworth is very well-off, there will be no question that he will request as much from the castle as he can to feel 'at home.' Therefore, his room will be inspired by a room of one of his favourite hotel suites - the Hazlitts in Soho, London. The hotel room is a bit smaller than it appears in the picture, but is extremely richly furnished and decorated. However, with opulence comes a price, as usual, and because of Edgeworth's fastidious tastes, the castle will inflict upon him at least one temporary loss per month. Unbeknownst to Edgeworth, of course.

At any given time, there will be a book or two on the bed, and others placed sporadically at various crevasses within the room.  There is another, smaller partition of the room containing a couch, small table, and chair. There are a pair of small speakers, a heated blanket, a small fridge with at least two wine bottles, and a heating apparatus that doesn't emit microwaves. There's also a burgundy/blue chess set. There's no television, no futon, and of course, no Oldbag . There is a black box on the desk that requires not only a key to be opened, but a sliding puzzle to be solved. There's also a medium-sized kitchen. The bathroom is nothing particularly fascinating, as he doesn't spend enough time in there to feel the need to expend too much effort in decorating it, and it is much smaller than one may expect after seeing the room. There is, however, a clean bathtub lined with a few red/gold, unused candles.

[He's nothing short of scared, now, and his expression betrays that even if I don't have a good icon for it.]

Are you joking? Because if you are, you're going too far.

Wright. This is not a topic worthy of jest. If you cannot recall Larry of all people, I fear that you have much more to recover than control of your legs.

[He's stunned into silence.

So he'll just be sitting here, staring at you, waiting for some further explanation.]

I... I guess I just don't know what you mean at all. I'm sorry...

[Remains in a wistful silence for a good moment.]











...You'll remember in due time.

[This is nagging him and he might as well spit it out now.]

I talked to a guy here once... he said the castle took all of his memories of his best friend. Do you think--could that be what's going on?

...[Having no better ideas, he picks up a pencil and flips open the sketchpad. Drawing Edgeworth, whether he likes it or not.]

[He sits there and watches silently, still quite bothered by the exchange, and the fear of not truly knowing if the loss of Larry's memory was a result of his fall or the castle...or both, in a way. He fears that he might have caused more damage to his friend than he could have ever imagined.]

...

[And in these preliminary stages of the sketch, he cannot tell who, or what, he's drawing, but at least watching helps to take his mind off things for a bit...He pops more fruit into his mouth..]

...You know, I must admit. At a certain point, I used to be rather jealous of how close you two were...

Who, me and the guy I can't remember?

[Although this was bitter and snappish, he sighs and shakes his head.]

Sorry... just... ...you were jealous?

[He tilts his head and keeps sketching.]














You wanted to be closer to me?

[cantacquityou]

[His stomach drops a bit and he clenches his fist - just why did he choose to word it that way?]



I...I was a bit envious of the dynamic... I... [Let's not scare him, here] ...simply observed the rapport between you two and had wondered what it would be like to have something similar...

[takethat]

[A small huff.]

I guess I can't really comment, since as far as I'm concerned, you're making this guy up. But I'd like to be better friends with you too, you know it? You're a good guy. I like you, but I feel like you're kind of an enigma still.

[He feels his ears turning red, doesn't know why, and commences hiding it behind his sketchpad as nonchalantly as possible.]

...That's the problem, I suppose. It is not as though the opportunity hasn't presented itself on many occasions, but as time progresses, I realize I am not particularly suited for such close relationships.

Maybe it just takes a little extra practice for you.





Just... let me know how to help, and I'll help.

...If I knew how, I would have attempted it on my own already.
...Just...knowing myself well enough, I do believe I am a lost case.

[Chuckle]

I haven't heard anything about you yet that's ever made me give up on you. I'm not planning to give up now, either.

'Give up' on me? Did you have a particular goal in mind?

[takethat]

I thought "getting closer to you" was the goal we were just discussing.

Well, in the vaguest sense, yes...


You have a way of seeing the good in everyone. I'll just beseech you to not overestimate the goodness in me. I know myself well. And what I've gathered is that I have a horrid habit of spurning the very same closeness that I may even have initially desired...and I realize...

[Pauses.]







...It's a force of habit. The more attached I realize that I am growing to someone, the more I attempt to push them away...

[takethat]

[He's listening to all this as he sketches, intent, it seems, on both actions at once. It takes him a while to formulate his response--not wanting to say the wrong thing, since he realizes what it is for Edgeworth to be confiding in him.]

....I think... that... from my perspective on this, being close to you will be worth the extra effort and tough skin it'll probably require.





So even if you're pushing me away, I'm still not giving up on you.

[He offers a lopsided little grin and turns the sketchbook around to reveal an unfinished, but much more apparent than it was previously, sketch of Edgeworth smiling.]
