Room at various angles.

...Because Edgeworth is very well-off, there will be no question that he will request as much from the castle as he can to feel 'at home.' Therefore, his room will be inspired by a room of one of his favourite hotel suites - the Hazlitts in Soho, London. The hotel room is a bit smaller than it appears in the picture, but is extremely richly furnished and decorated. However, with opulence comes a price, as usual, and because of Edgeworth's fastidious tastes, the castle will inflict upon him at least one temporary loss per month. Unbeknownst to Edgeworth, of course.

At any given time, there will be a book or two on the bed, and others placed sporadically at various crevasses within the room.  There is another, smaller partition of the room containing a couch, small table, and chair. There are a pair of small speakers, a heated blanket, a small fridge with at least two wine bottles, and a heating apparatus that doesn't emit microwaves. There's also a burgundy/blue chess set. There's no television, no futon, and of course, no Oldbag . There is a black box on the desk that requires not only a key to be opened, but a sliding puzzle to be solved. There's also a medium-sized kitchen. The bathroom is nothing particularly fascinating, as he doesn't spend enough time in there to feel the need to expend too much effort in decorating it, and it is much smaller than one may expect after seeing the room. There is, however, a clean bathtub lined with a few red/gold, unused candles.

The most important thing I want you to understand is that I think you were incredibly selfish, running away this time, and I wish you'd think of other people before you do stupid crap like that.

[Because he's run the gamut between worry and sorrow and it's been tiring. Not to mention all the time he's had to himself to think about all this.]

[He walks towards him, closing in the distance Phoenix had put between them...]










... I think this would be better discussed while seated.

[For the third time, he heads toward the bar.]

[Follows. Defeatedly.]

[Phoenix is silent for the rest of the short walk to the bar; when they arrive, he holds the door open for Edgeworth like a gentleman.]

...I'm not picky about where we sit.

[cantacquityou]

[Taken aback at that gesture. Even more confused, he takes a seat at a booth nearby.]

[takethat]

[He slides into the booth, opposite Edgeworth, and stares at the table.]

Definitely not how I imagined spending tonight...

...How did you imagine it?

[takethat]

...I wanted to spend tonight partying with my friends. Eating cake, getting drunk, laughing, having a good time. ...and I expected to be drinking alone in my room all night.

"Continuing to fight with Edgeworth in the bar" wasn't something I considered.

I...did not...intend...to fight with you...



...neither do I want to, now...

I don't want to, either, but I feel like if I don't keep trying to make you understand... then you never will, and I'll just have to go along pretending things are okay when they're not.

You simply cannot make anyone understand something, Wright...

Then I need to keep trying to help you understand--nitpicking my word choice doesn't change what I meant.

...[There is so much he would like to interject in response to that. However, knowing that what he'd have to say would simply make it worse, and he had absolutely no patience for a fight, he decides against it. He rests his chin in his palm, elbow upon the table, and gazes off to the side.]



... Go ahead, Wright. Tell me everything. Let me have it. Unleash anything you could possibly wish to say to me. I am listening.

I mostly already have. [Sigh] You've been selfish and mean, and you hurt me a lot. I don't know how many other ways I can say that, but you still don't seem to understand...






...I missed you. I was worried sick about you. I really... wish you'd come back here. Like it or not, this is "home" for the time being, and nothing feels right without you here.

[Abruptly, he calls one of the wait staff over and orders a drink--he'd like to do anything but let that last statement settle in the air between the two of them.]

[He remains unmoving as Phoenix orders his drink. He taps his fingers upon the table, and refuses with a, 'not right now' when the waiter offers him a drink as well.]









...How did you manage, then, the months you have been here prior to my arrival?

[takethat]

[He sips his drink, taking his time in answering that.]

I won't lie; part of it was that I was very caught up in trying to figure this place out, and worrying about not having my voice. But... I did think about you a lot. Wished you were here, some, too. So I guess I still missed you, even then.

[cantacquityou]

[As he gazes out of the window, he engages in his usual fidget - grasping his arm.]

[takethat]

[He nurses his drink for a long while, hating the uneasy silence but failing in his attempt to cast about for anything else to say, until finally he rubs at his temples and slumps back against his seat.]

I don't know about any of this, Miles. I really shouldn't care so much where you are, but I do, and I can't... seem to stop.

[Implying vaguely, perhaps, that he's been trying very hard to stop caring about Miles Edgeworth.]

[At this, he could not experience any more ...guilt. How was he to tell to the truth and confess to his friend... his... straight friend... that an immense part of his disappearance was an attempt to purge himself of those uncomfortably spontaneous lustful thoughts of him? How could he be truthful about it without making him perpetually uncomfortable and possibly destroying the waning fibres of their friendship? It would perhaps be even easier to make a declaration of love - at least it would imply a sort of unconditional affection. However, Edgeworth had long acknowledged that it was simply an attraction on purely the physical level, and that, he knew, would rub his friend the wrong way... Is there a way for one to convey, "I've been plagued by niggling sexual fantasies about you," without saying, "I've been plagued by niggling sexual fantasies about you"?]








...Such is the wayward heart, Wright. It is nearly impossible to control.

[takethat]

[Edgeworth may not have meant much by it, but his choice of words--"wayward heart"--sends Phoenix into a bristling, ears-burning scowl. Everything has been so confusing for him lately, and the possibility of something... serious... had crossed his mind more than once. Now, sitting here across from Edgeworth (who is looking a bit distraught and in need of a hug), this is not something he wants to address. He finishes off his drink.]

...I've never been able to do very much with my feelings, anyway, even when I think they're going completely haywire on me.

What do you mean?

[takethat]

They just take off without me. They do their own thing. I'm not in control.

[Smiling wryly. He's going to need another drink.]

It's a bad way to be.

...I've realized that you tend to grow overly attached to your cases and that need of yours to 'save' people. As I recall telling you long before, we are only human. We are not saviors. We are lawyers. Perhaps if you did not take on the responsibility of 'saving' me as seriously as you do, these feelings of which you speak would not run away with you as such.
