Room at various angles.

...Because Edgeworth is very well-off, there will be no question that he will request as much from the castle as he can to feel 'at home.' Therefore, his room will be inspired by a room of one of his favourite hotel suites - the Hazlitts in Soho, London. The hotel room is a bit smaller than it appears in the picture, but is extremely richly furnished and decorated. However, with opulence comes a price, as usual, and because of Edgeworth's fastidious tastes, the castle will inflict upon him at least one temporary loss per month. Unbeknownst to Edgeworth, of course.

At any given time, there will be a book or two on the bed, and others placed sporadically at various crevasses within the room.  There is another, smaller partition of the room containing a couch, small table, and chair. There are a pair of small speakers, a heated blanket, a small fridge with at least two wine bottles, and a heating apparatus that doesn't emit microwaves. There's also a burgundy/blue chess set. There's no television, no futon, and of course, no Oldbag . There is a black box on the desk that requires not only a key to be opened, but a sliding puzzle to be solved. There's also a medium-sized kitchen. The bathroom is nothing particularly fascinating, as he doesn't spend enough time in there to feel the need to expend too much effort in decorating it, and it is much smaller than one may expect after seeing the room. There is, however, a clean bathtub lined with a few red/gold, unused candles.

...I've realized that you tend to grow overly attached to your cases and that need of yours to 'save' people. As I recall telling you long before, we are only human. We are not saviors. We are lawyers. Perhaps if you did not take on the responsibility of 'saving' me as seriously as you do, these feelings of which you speak would not run away with you as such.

As I keep trying to tell you, your happiness matters to me. I want you to be happy. Unfortunately, I also want myself to be happy--I'm only human, after all--and so I can't find the right balance at all anymore.

Can I not simply tell you that I am happy and put an end to this nonsense?

...doing that wouldn't help, because either you'd be lying, or it'd be the truth and I'd know forever that you were much happier being far away from me.

I really do not know what to tell you, Wright. If I am to be quite honest... no matter what it is in my mind to say, I am sure it will hurt you in some way or the other.

...well, then you might as well just be honest. Get it over with, and all that.

[Yes, he's definitely ordering another drink. When he's not speaking to the wait staff, he's working his jaw as though he's either fighting back tears or trying very hard not to say something.]

[He surprises himself with what he has to say next...]


I do not think I could bring myself to make you feel any worse than I already have.

[It's almost enough just hearing that Edgeworth actually knows he's made Phoenix feel bad. It's one of the first times he's conceded such, and it shuts Phoenix up for a moment.

Just a moment.]

...thanks for caring more than I thought you did, then.

Hmph. You have no idea.

...don't you want a drink?

...not at the moment.

...I plan to drink until I'm completely incoherent.

[He looks from the table up to Edgeworth and smiles, rather sadly.]

Sound like a plan?

...you're free to not sit around and watch me get drunk.

[He calls the waiter and orders himself a glass of champagne. He begins to drink it a little quicker than one would expect.]



...What is the appeal to you, anyway? Getting drunk, I mean...

Ordinarily? It makes everything funnier, which means I'm having a good time. And right now? I want to forget all this shit for a while, of course.

[So, he'll just be knocking back the remainder of his second beer of the night.]

...If you want things to be funnier, I can't, for the life of me, understand why you would want someone like me around you.

Because for some ungodly reason, I really like you.

[Edgeworth experiences an odd jolt from those words. He's heard this before, but something about the way he said that this time is...different. Perhaps it's the added, 'really.' It all seems so simultaneously obvious and so easy to be misconstrued.]

...no, nothing's the matter.

[He can feel a blush creeping up his neck--that hadn't exactly gone the way he'd intended. Better just get another drink and hope for the best.]
