Room at various angles.

...Because Edgeworth is very well-off, there will be no question that he will request as much from the castle as he can to feel 'at home.' Therefore, his room will be inspired by a room of one of his favourite hotel suites - the Hazlitts in Soho, London. The hotel room is a bit smaller than it appears in the picture, but is extremely richly furnished and decorated. However, with opulence comes a price, as usual, and because of Edgeworth's fastidious tastes, the castle will inflict upon him at least one temporary loss per month. Unbeknownst to Edgeworth, of course.

At any given time, there will be a book or two on the bed, and others placed sporadically at various crevasses within the room. There is another, smaller partition of the room containing a couch, small table, and chair. There are a pair of small speakers, a heated blanket, a small fridge with at least two wine bottles, and a heating apparatus that doesn't emit microwaves. There's also a burgundy/blue chess set. There's no television, no futon, and of course, no Oldbag . There is a black box on the desk that requires not only a key to be opened, but a sliding puzzle to be solved. There's also a medium-sized kitchen. The bathroom is nothing particularly fascinating, as he doesn't spend enough time in there to feel the need to expend too much effort in decorating it, and it is much smaller than one may expect after seeing the room. There is, however, a clean bathtub lined with a few red/gold, unused candles.

[He grabs an orange for each of them anyway.]

...I did not have anywhere in particular in mind. It is your birthday.

[Tosses one of the oranges at Edgeworth.]

I haven't had nearly enough alcohol for a birthday.

[Tries to catch it.

[Stare]

Didn't you learn anything from baseball?

...Anything other than what was originally intended, I suppose.

[He retrieves the orange from the floor and hands it over.]

Here. You really have got to learn how to catch better...

[takes...?]

...I've always imagined myself to be a better pitcher than catcher...

[He just... shakes his head and digs into his orange with his fingernails.]

C'mon. To the bar?

[Heading out the door ~~barring any objections~~]

[Follows silently.]

[Strolling down the hall to the stairs, Phoenix munches on his orange.]

Hm... what made you decide to come over here tonight, really?

[It's not intended to be a pointed question--he's curious and making small talk--but when he asks it, he can't help but wonder if maybe there is something more to this than he's getting. It's pretty odd behavior for a guy who's been doing his best to avoid him for weeks.]

...because you asked. Vaguely.

No, no. You offered before I asked. It was your idea in the first place, and that's what I'm curious about now.

...if I can correctly recall, I do believe you emphasizing being lonesome... to which I asked if you were either hinting at something, or relaying your woes to me. You said, 'both.'

[He gives a sort of groan that dissolves into hollow laughter.]

You never change.

...neither do you.

...I think I changed my mind about wanting to spend time with you tonight. I'm probably better off just drinking on my own for a while. Go back to wherever you've been.

[And he grumpily shoves his hands into his pockets, orange peel and all. His patience is a bit on the thin side with Edgeworth, still, after all that's come between them.]

[W-W-........What....the .....shit?]

[He's stalking down the stairs, now, but he stops halfway and turns back to Edgeworth again.]

...if you join me, don't you suppose we can expect a couple of hours of arguing and stilted conversation before we both leave, mad at each other, and I don't see you for another month or something?

[A pause, and then his tone is nothing but snark.]

Or, even better, you could come and sleep in my room and make like we're so close until you decide to stop talking to me again the next day. That'd be great.

[At this point, Edgeworth could not be any...more...confused. He stares at him, mouth agape, constantly on the verge of attempting to respond, but finding no words...]

...I-... Wri--... Er... Wha-...?

...you don't understand at all, do you? ...I don't expect you to.

[He heaves a bitter sigh.]

I guess if I just say that and let it go, it won't ever matter that you just don't get why I'm still upset, and I can pretend it's not a big deal.

[And he continues down the stairs, waving a hand for Edgeworth to follow him again.]
